Just signed up, so first off, hi everyone! :D

The tap that operates the shower on our shower/bath tap is really stiff. We had a plumber in to do some other work over a year ago, and he had a look at it. he said it was probably a problem with scale or the washer, but that he couldn't open it up as he didn't have a large enough socket. he advised me to get one and it would be an easy thing to look at myself.

So, over a year later I finally got round to it. Got the tap and decorative bits off, but can't get any further. I have a 30mm deep socket that reaches down to the bit that looks like a nut in the picture but I can't move it.

Is that what I need to undo? Is it just seized? Or am I missing something?

On the verge of just calling a plumber as I need our boiler serviced too, but I'd love to sort it out now I've got this far!

Cheers in advance,

Stuart

Like the man said - it's all scaled up so will be hard to undo. Go for it!

2 replies in 6 minutes. That's impressive!

I will give it another go, but I haven't exactly been holding back so far! The whole tap assembly starts to move if I push too hard which is a bit of a problem.

That is the thing I want to undo then?

wd40 it, then the 30mm nut to remove the assembly, then the circlip on the top spindle to take it apart.

have you checked if its a clockwise or anti clockwise thread ?

How can I check? I did think of this and have tried both ways, but I don't have the instructions that came with it (fitter binned them).

have already WD40d it.

I'll give it another go, and if I can't budge it, call someone in.

Cheers for your help.

Stuart

do you know make/model ?

if you can't budge it i wouldn't waste money on getting someone in.
