Hi all,

I have just purchased a new ceiling light from BnQ. When I got it home to install I found that the instructions are less than useful and are 6 basic drawings that tell you bot all. I have fitted lights before but the connector that came with this is new to me!!! As you will see from the pics, there are holes for the wires but no screws to tighten them up??? Are these some sort of push fit? Will they grab the wire when inserted? Also I know I have to get L and N the correct way around but does it matter if I insert into the top or bottom hole on either side? Thanks for your help, Mark.

Yes, they're push fit. Sometimes they don't grab, but at least you have two chances with each one. (It doesn't matter which of the paired terminals you use.) To find out which one is the live terminal, trace the terminal to the centre point of the lamp holder.

Thanks for your speedy and helpful reply!! Fortunately the L and N are already indicated but dont show on the pics. Right off to fit it, thanks again!

Woah!!!!!!!

Don't even try to fit it, a customer brought one asked me to fit it, the push fits didn't work!! Theyt went straight out and got another whilst I waited, same thing.

They are sh1te!!!

They work OK with solid core cable, but not with stranded.

Not exactly the best connector though.

Thanks for all the warnings but it was all too late, already installed! Although a novice i agree they are sh1te! I was gonna put the solid core in but it didn't reach. Settled on stranded and i must say it was alright. It pushed in snug an a mild tug couldn't get it back out. Its quite solid in. Still i'd sooner use somethin else given the choice, wots wrong with good old screw terminals? I think these should stop bein produced!

screw terminals rely on the installer to apply the correct torque to the screws to secure the wire in place without damaging it..

many people overtighten screws and break strands off conductors..
