Now I know why I didn't become a sparky, your suppliers are even worse than ours.
All I need is a couple of warm white (roughly 500mm long by 20 mm thick) tubes for a T4 slimline 16 watt fitting, colour about 2700K; where can I pick those up in south London?
Many thanks in advance.

You won't be able to squeeze a 20mm dia tube into a T4 fitting - you'll need a T4 tube.

Your first challenge will be to find the exact size you need - AFAIK there are no standard lengths for T4 tubes, there will be several different "roughly 500mm" lengths out there, so you need to start with the make of light, and look for the exact size,, e.g. 456, 467, 480, 469, 553mm etc.

20mm Wide would equate to a T6.3 tube, which while fitting the renard series of preffered numbers, they have never been quite daft enough to produce tubes in T numbers which arn't integers
