HI ,
I don't know what my beams are made of , please see attached, but they are covered in what I assume to be woodstain.

I've had two quotes to remove it via blasting , one at £1300 and one at £1500. They both said it was a one day job. I cant afford either !

The surfaces are rough. riven so I cant scrape it off, and advice please ?

thanks

to remove the woodstain so the natural wood finish is exposed - or at least make it an awful lot lighter

I appreciate that the price sounds like (is) a lot for one day but you probably won't be able to diy to it unless you want to spend some time learning how to apply faux wood grain- in short, you apply a light base colour and then use graining rockers to apply a slightly darker colour.

There might be a reason why they were stained darker.

Sorry. I am a decorator but seldom work in houses like your yours.
