Looking to open up a room downstairs by taking a load bearing wall out. There will be approximatley a 12-14ft span.

I'm going via BC and they need to see workings out from a structural engineer showing size of steel needed, load bearins etc. A friends partner is a SE and might do this for me on a 'weekend'.

Obviously I will pay but have no idea what one would normally charge (northern England) and what would be a fair price to give for them doing this as a bit on the side?

Thanks

£100-300 probably. SE's don't really do things on the side, it will still have to be done under his company PI umbrella albeit maybe in his own time.

If it helps, my guy last year was £150 for the first wall/RSJ, and another £75 for each wall calculated whilst there.

The new guy coming around to do other plans etc charges £150 +VAT.
