Hi

I am having a wall removed on the ground floor, it's a load bearing wall made from blockwork with dot and dab plasterboard. Wall has a span of 2.8m.

Would a structural engineer be required to provide calcs to remove this wall, or would the builder just know what size steel to insert? I'm getting a few quotes next week so just want to get as much info as possible before getting builders in.

Thanks

Whether an engineer is required will depend on the actual work. The builder may know, or may need to be told what is required, and calculations may or may not be needed.

But a building regs application will need to be made regardless. Wait for the builders to mention it, as its a good way of knowing which of them are clued up or not.
