If a stud wall runs parallel to an RSJ what is the usual method of fixing the head plate? Is there some sort of tie or other fixing available or do you screw into the RSJ?
if i know i'm going to fix something to an r.s.j. i get my steel suppliers to pre- drill the flange at pre-set increments and pre determined hole sizes.
drilling up hill is no fun.
you could hire a "hilti" nail gun or a magnetic drill to achieve a fixing solution, just be patient when using these tools.
We usualy drill a 12mm hole at 600mm centres, offset on opposite flanges, to suit m10 coachbolts. Done with a mag drill in workshop.
If its alraedy in place, It shouldnt be to difficult to drill an 11mm with a decent hand drill and sharp drill bit. Drill out to 5mm then open out to 11mm.
