Hello all,

I need to build a stud wall in our extension. The floor is 75mm flow screed, polythene barrier and 70mm Celotex on a concrete base. There is no underfloor heating.

Can the timber sill plate be plugged/screwed directly into the screed, or is there another recommended method?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers, Paul.

A 4 inch concrete screw would do the trick. Best not to go near the dpm if avoidable and unless the wall is very long a 2 or 2 1/2inch catch would be fine.

Thanks for your help.

The wall needs to be 3.1m long with a door opening at one end. Aside from the screed floor fixing, the studwork will be fixed to thermalite block walls at either end, and the head plate will be into a steel beam.

Cheers, Paul.

This is not a structural wall and you only need a nominal 25mm (approx) spike to stop any lateral movement - as opposed to some mighty fixings to try and hold the wall down
