Students, prepare yourself for hurty words.

You extremely rarely back up your statements
My posts very frequently include quotes and links, so yes I do back up my statements.

What do you mean "I lack empathy"?

If you want to see lack of empathy, look at the Trump supporters on here who are in full support of the cruel deportation policies ripping families apart.....simply for political gain.

Look at the constant dehumanisation of asylum seekers by the right wing supporters on this forum.

Look at the demonisation of people on benefits by the right wing supporters on this forum.

But you say I lack empathy. Give yer head a shake

Brainwashing. It starts in primary school these days.

Notchy is a prime example.

All tyrannies (eg. Hitler/Nazis) understood that if you get them young, you've got them for life.
The Christian Brothers,an extreme sect of the Roman Catholic Church, they run a lot of Catholic schools.

Their motto,in reference to primary school pupils was, 'Get them before 8 or else its too late'.
Most people they were referring to the kids spiritual development and saving their souls, we now know that wasn't the case.

What makes you think she is the one with the extremely blinkered views and not you?

It has always been the case. Narrow minded parents don't like it when their children go off to university and mix with young people with different views. Instead of belittling them, they should just accept that it is a healthy part of growing up. I would never subject an idealistic young person to a facts of life dressing down. That is what bullies do to make themselves feel big. It is not the university itself that changes young people, it's the experience of getting away from old people, interacting solely with other young people, and broadening their social circle. Having said that, I actually managed to keep my centre right views throughout. It is only later that I gradually moved to the centre.

Yes, but if the logical conclusion/desire is we don't want anyone to be offended, ever, then what are we left with? A vanilla society where everything we say/do is so anodyne we'd be as well not existing.

My mum knew someone who walked out of a theatre show, I think it was maybe Les Miserables. Why? Cause one of the opening scenes had women doing the Can Can and when they bent over and flashed their bloomers my mum's friend thought 'nope, not for me!' and walked out.

Do we therefore slap trigger warnings on such shows? Do we ban them altogether or ensure they're so anodyne there's no point in the first place?

I do think there is a misunderstanding and misuse of the word "woke".

I think there is a place for trigger warnings, for example showing war footage which could trigger veterans with PTSD.

Giving people the chance to not watch and avoid being triggered seems sensible.

I don’t think people have a right to not be offended, that’s a different thing

But where does it start/end, what would the scope be for trigger warnings?

Using your example, if the programme is quite obviously war orientated, logic should tell a war PTSD person not to watch? And if the programme is 60 mins long with a 12 sec war footage clip 48 mins in, does that warrant a trigger warning?

Jeez, to ensure no one's triggered we'd need trigger warnings to pop up every other minute!

As you rightly say, it requires sensible judgement.

I remember the case of a water authority which got taken to court by some teenage boy who won. The boy had got into their land which contained loads of old water treatment works, the boy fell down a deep ish drop and broke his ankle, he won compensation because there was no warning sign.

I think it’s the litigation fear that leads to this culture where businesses over think stuff so much.

I could never grow my hair long as in down my back long.

Always wanted to, never could.
