Hi
I'm building a stud work chimney breast in my kitchen which will surround my cooker, there will be an extractor fan underneath, my question is, how fire proof should I make it, two layers of plasterboard, fire retardant fireboard , master board or is there another way that I don't know??

Thanks

If this is not a structural studwall, then no specific fire precautions would be required

Generally, 12.5mm plaster board and skim will do externally.

The problem will be the internal face of the studwork, but without a diagram its difficult to know what sections will be at risk. For piece of mind, use a fibre cement fire board (Masterboard, Superlux etc) to any at risk surface on the internal face, and intumescent sealant to the joints/corners etc
