i'm changing my back room into a kitchen soon and I'm not too sure what to do about the floor.
At the moment its T and G boards on suspended joists. I'm going to rip them all up to lay pipes, cables and insulation between the joists.
My question is: do I lay 1 layer of 18mm ply or a couple of layers of 12mm as I want to tile on top and I do not want any tiles to crack under any circumstances.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

You need to put down either 18mm. exterior ply or 18mm. chipboard as a minimum sub floor

There is not many good quality floor tile adhesives which like chip board , so stick to ply. Don't forget to get flexible adhesive and grout or the liquid to mix with them to make it flexible as your going onto wood, and pva the wood with a mixture of 1 to 1.

Don't use PVA use the primer reccomended by the adhesive manufacturer
