Hi I am new to growing sunflowers.The leaves are slightly shrivelled and have holes in them Are they being attacked by a bug or is it me killing them

No, as annuals, they are reaching the end of their life probably.

I bet you don't know why its called a sun flower.

its not because it vaguely looks like the sun (and sings oh, vitalite)
its because the actual flower actualy follows the sun all day
