It was really flameport's idea. As I said, I wouldn't really trust it - if it had already deteriorated from (presumably) under 1Ω to nearly 7Ω (over an unknown period of time), I don't think there is any way of even guessing how fast, or to what extent, continued deterioration will occur (the problem could be very close to the house) - particularly given that it could be years before anyone undertakes any further measurements.I hadn't considered using the sheath like that especially as you don't know the length but as you say below 7Ω , cheers.
No-one but the DNO should get involved in that - they have their special (I think 'spring loaded', these days) connectors. Whatever else, do not even think of tightening a standard 'earth clamp' (as would be used, for example, for bonding to a pipe) onto the sheath of an incoming supply cable, since that could possibly prove dramatic and/or fatal.What do people consider the best method of connecting the earth to the other sheath without damaging it though? (I've only seen lead cable inside properties serving lights or sockets previously).
