Hi does anyone have suggestions for routing the speaker cables for a 5.1 system? I need to route the cabling for my rear speakers so wondering whether to wedge them between the carpet and skirting or some other method. Obviously this method won't allow me to go across doorways. I'm in the middle of putting new skirting and carpet in but have already lined the walls so a pattress box and speaker plate is out of the question.

Would lever terminals screwed onto the skirting look totally out of place?

I need to run the cables from the TV in one corner to the opposite corners of the living room.

zzz... pull off the old skirting. fix an 18mm sq batten to the wall where the top of the skirting will be (remove any plaster over the bricks at this point). With a bit of luck the thickness of the batten will be the same as the thickness of the plaster, or can be made so with a little judicious planing or filling.

Fix another such batten to the wall 18mm above floor level.

Run the cables in the gap between the battens

Fix the new skirting to the battens (I prefer with small screws).

Bring the cables out of the top of the skirting, or the top front near the top, if you're convinced you don't want to put outlet boxes in the wall like any sensible person.

There are reasons why you can do this with speaker or phone cables, but not with electricity cables.

you can also buy flat cables that are easier to deal with :)

good luck

Thanks for your replies - I'm going to run the cables under the carpet to terminals on the skirting, that way I can set-up the Amp and speakers anywhere in the room.
