SWA

Although there is no definitive regulation.....

Be careful in caravan parks though......Seen a few parks with VERY shallowly treched cables! And there is a REG for depths there!

Not sure on that one Lec, the only one I can remember is that the underground cables should be installed outside the pitches. Last time I did one we put the cables at least 600mm down (and the digger went streight through the phone cable at 6in )

Umm - been reading the 17th pre-release re some work this winter, and may be getting crossed - sure there is still a minimum in the 16th though.....

450mm is the norm.

Idealy to the top of the cable or duct and protected with 100mm sand hand tamped.

Don't forget the warning tape as well!

BS 7671 has no definitive depth - it says along the lines of the cable should be of sufficient depth to avoid damage by any thing that could happen when earthworks are carried out in the vicinity.

450mm minimum cover is the accepted norm but if its under carriageway and thus subject to vehicular pressure you should think about 600mm
