a switched live is the signal to the boiler to switch on.
In this case its 240Vac that goes from your clock to either stat to the zone valves, which in turn energize, motor open making and endswitch which sends 240Vac to the boiler.
Its either clock, stats, motor in zone valve or end switches that are faulty.
