Woodlands begins an introduction to the menace, saying; The sycamore is fast growing tree and regarded by some as a ‘weed’. It is not a native tree, it is native to central, eastern and southern Europe. It was introduced probably in the 1500’s and has since spread across the U.K.

I always say a weed is just a plant in the wrong place. They've become prevalent in our local area over the last thirty years and they out-seed other species until they achieve total supremacy in the wood. It's intent on world domination.

That's why they cut it down?

I say an Oak tree would be more appropriate in that spot.

it does seem odd that we are so upset at the very last tree being cut down on this bleak moor - what happened to the other half million trees that should be up there too - that is the real enviromental disaster

As for these two clowns - if they had ben walking back from the pub completely pished and it had been a moment of madness then I probably wouldn't say too much as I have also done some mad things with my mates when completely pished between pubs...

But these two farkwits drove all the way from carlisle (150 mile round trip ?) to carry out this idiotic act - so it wasn't a moment of drunken madness, it was a planned act that took considerable time

I would not of locked up these two blokes if they had simply annunced on social media they didn't like trees or a particular tree.

The value of the tree, drove the sentence. I'm not sure why the defence didn't challenge that, but I haven't looked at the details.
