Hmm. So better to leave a gap and fill the gap with some sort of baton or featheredge?

how big will the gap be?

If you "paste" your photos into your post, I will be able to see them.

Just confused wether to leave a gap and cover gap to give the post enough concrete on all 4 sides or flush it sgainst wall with only 3 sides concreted

Could even put a 6" gravel board there to cover it and make the gap 6inch

knock down that stumpy little wall and bolt a post to the wall of the house. Assuming you get a wooden post it will last better if it does not touch the ground.

As it does not touch the ground it will not be prone to rot, and will not be set in concrete. You could space it off the ground enough for your gravel board to fit underneath.
