Taking rads off

No, unless you completely drain the system to below the height of the radiator first.
 
yeah mate providing the valves work ok,

switch central heating off
turn both sides of the vales off on the rad you want to take off
using a container that will fit under the radiator loosen the valve nut off on the radiator side till it starts to run open the vent pin this will speed things up u may want a bucket to empty the smaller container in to
 
I was wondering if there was any tricks to it, but it's just a case of shutting off rad valves and running water off then, until rad is empty?

This is all you have to do.

Square ice cream containers are good. plenty of dustsheets as well, and take your time.

Also use TWO tools, one to undo nut, and more importantly one to hold the valve so it doesn;t twist off pipe!

Most valves will shut off, use a small spanner, after removing plastic caps.
