tanking bathroom quote

Hi All

Had a quote to tank a bathroom/shower wall. Approx 7m sq for £650+vat. Any ideas if thats a resonable price, its south east area.

Their recommendations::

• Using a powered chippin/bush hammer,
remove all traces of tile grout and loose
surfaces from the walls as shown
• Clean the solid concrete floor/ removing
the shower tray setting it aside for re-
fixing by the clients

• Brush or spray apply two coats of TT55

section of flooring, overlapping the walls

and offer long term protection for the
internal walls.

£650 plus vat takes the price to over £700 for just painting on a slurry coat its way to high any one that can hold a paint brush can paint it on, tanking systems like that are normally followed by a coat of render

For a cementitious tanking slurry to be effective the wall preparation prior to tanking is paramount, or it will fail. Never heard of a 50 year guarantee with a tanking system, never heard of TT55 either, The best tanking slurry I've know of is supplied by Safeguard europe which carries a BBA approval,many don't, a 25 kg bag is £73.00 +VAT and carriage which would 2 coat your 7 sq mts and as previous post says if you can hold a paintbrush you can do it yourself however, wall prep, if done properly and protective render coat to tanking is absolutely vital, I don't think your quote is overpriced but I would clarify what product is being used for the tanking and is it being rendered to protect it.
