Just about to tile a new shower cubical.
The shower tray has an upstand, which I have made flush to the boarding. This was done to allow the tiles to go over the upstand.

Q1 Do I need to tank the aquapanel boards.

Q2 should I put a line of silicone on the front face of the upstand, or continue the tile cement down the uptand (first row od tiles)

Dont use any tile adhesive on the upstand - stop the adhesive just above the upstand.
Bring the bottom course of tiles down to about 3mm above the flat rim of the shower base, and seal with silicone after all fixing, grouting and cleaning is finished.
