Tap dog legs

I am trying to install the dog legs so that the tap will be right in the middle of the sink but when I tighten them they always finish to the right as the image above. Do you know how I can get them to finish in a different position once tightened?

Increase or decrease the amount of ptfe?

Don't use them. If the holes are centered to the sink then you want to use different fittings. 15mm (1/2") x 3/4" male nipple/adapter.

TBH .... I would have set that up a different way so there were 2 pipe tails coming through so you could fit better fittings to them.

Do I need to use washers with the dog legs or just PTFE tape?

Just plenty of PTFE tape.
