Tape for laps in damp proof membrane

The stuff we bought from Screwfix which is apparently the right stuff for the job (for taping joints in polythene dpms) is absolutely beyond useless! It's barely even tacky, never mind sticky, and it just doesnt work.

We bought some Duck Tape to make a temporary seal, but it strikes me that it's better stuff for the job anyway.

Anybody shed any light on this? Should the 'proper' tape be better, is there something else we can do?

All the dpm tape i have used sticks like shoite to a blanket.

I use a local builders merchant.

I never shop at screwfix, ever.
