Tapping noise comimg from top of engine

Hi,
I have got a 1996 1.8 vauxhall vectra, after starting the engine up for the first time in a week i can hear a slight tapping noise coming from the top of the engine, im not good on cars but i think this noise might be the tappets but im not sure, if it is would this be a hard job to do? or if i took it to the garage how much would it cost, then again it might be something completely different.
Any help would be much appreciated.

If it hasnt had an oil and filter change in a while, it's worth doing that first as they are probably hydraulic tappets

aye,the tapping should slowly dissapear as the engine starts to warm up,may be worth an oil and filter change tough to flush it out
