Tax return

I'm having a sort out of my office. I've found receipts and tax returns dating back to 2010. How long do we have to keep these for? Is it 7 years.

Thats what I have always believed, I think 7 years is the limit after which HMRC cannot instigate an investigation

Just had trawl about if HMRC find irregularities going back 4 years they may want to go back 20 years, that from a tax advice site

They must all have big houses to store all this paperwork

I chuck mine after 7 years anyway, still got copies of book keeping on disc somewhere but no receipts

Bin them...you seriously think some tax bod is going to ever ever sit and sift through a pile of receipts...
