Two spheres A and B.

A French Sphere A has a diameter of 10,000 metres

An American Sphere B has a diameter of 3 ft 7.5 ins.

A seperate piano wire is drawn out around each sphere no kinks or stretching etc.
A plane cuts the centre of each sphere and contains the centre lines of the wires.
Each wire has it's centre line precisely 1 foot above the surface of it's own sphere.

How much does each piano wire vary in length along its center line from the circumference of the sphere it encircles?

;) http://xs303.xs.to/xs303/06293/2Spheres.jpg 2Pi ft or 6.28 ft

The answer is alongside :D in the question.

6.28 feet, more or less, no ?

EDIT: Which looks more or less what KeyPlayer just said.....

Answer

:D :D

So diff, wire length minus sphere circumference, is
2*Pi*height ( height units ) above surface.
