Temperature question

I am about to tidy up the horizontal flue exit hole on the inside of kitchen and am condidering using some 1.5 mm white plastic which looks very neat around the flue tube, but I'm not sure if the flue turret gets very hot and may melt the plastic.

Any info please.

I should have said the boiler is a Worcester 30 CDI conventional.

Flue will get warm to the touch but as the outer part of the flue is the air intake it should not melt your plastic.

Thanks Dave, I didn't know the flue was a two way device, but now thinking about it fire needs air, and I'm pleased to learn it flows in the outer tube of the flue.

The boiler was only installed four days ago and we are going on holiday for 2 weeks tomorrow, so I have switched it all off, and didn't think about feeling the turret when it was running for hotness.

Re reading your post I take you mean conventional = standard efficiency as opposed to a condensing boiler, or did you mean open flued as oppsed to fan flued?

How come you had a non condensing boiler fitted only 4 days ago? Exemptions for these are very hard to get

I think ( hope ) he means a conventional boiler as opposed to a combi.

A non-condensing boiler is called a "standard" boiler.

Thats all in the slightly confusing terminology of the energy efficiency training which all CORGIs fitting boilers are required to have passed.

Hi Dave and Tony I actually quoted the title on the front of the instruction manual which says "Greenstar CDi conventional" Condensing boiler so I hope your comments regarding the coaxial flue still apply.

change to, 'regarding the concentric flue'

Then we'd all know your trying to repair a boiler and not trying to repair aerials.

why not get a flue plate from the local merchants as most manufacturers make them! then you can be sure it is suitable!

Thanks for your pedantic correction of my terminology, which was not at all helpful in my search for sensible help, and if any of our members thought I was trying to repair aerials after reading my descriptive post I would very surprised.

I resent your unnecessary remark, how can fitting a piece of plastic sheet to a flat wall above the indoors flue flue exit be deemed dangerous.

The coaxial output of high power UHF transmitters is virtually the same as the construction of a boiler flue! A six inch aluminium outer and a 3" aluminium inner.

I am quite happy for you to call the flue coaxial as there is no confusion however some of the UK manufacturers have chosen to call them concentric.

But Ariston, Baxi, Biasi, Chaffoteux etc. all use the term coaxial !
