temporary cheap and cheerful down lighters/ spots

Can I run cheap downlighters/ spots from a 3 pin plug in a wall socket?

Its for a temporary work situation, doesn't have to look pretty and won't be left on unattended.

Can be 240V or low voltage. Is it possible to run such things off a 3 pin plug and if so - which type and how many lights can I have max?

needs to cost the bare minimum....

yes you can

3 amp fuse = roughly 700W of lighting

should be fine. Use a 3A or 5A fuse depending on rating. Flex sized appropriately to fuse rating.

Make sure all flex is well restrained so it doesn't get pulled out.

ok, thanks for the replies. So I just add up the watts on the bulbs and use the right fuse and cable.

Is there any advantage in using 12V as opposed to 240V? I'm not bothered about the running costs ie electric consumption.
