Hi all, hope that someone can point me in the right direction here.

I've just found that one of our rads has had a tiny (but constant) leak around the area where the pipe connects to the rad (please forgive my ignorance in what it's actually called!) The corrosion is around the large nut (?) at the base of the rad, and not the TRV. I'm assuming that the rad needs to be replaced, but now is not a good time - it will have to be done in a couple of weeks.

Can anyone tell me/recommend something that I can apply to the leaking area to plug the leak for the time being? years ago I used something similar, it was a rubbery sealant that I applied to a valve, and that did the trick. I can't for the life of remember what the product might even be referred to as - any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

you could just tighten the nut up??

LSX by fernox is a quick setting silicone...but it horrible stuff used by cowboys...if needs must however

You can stop it leaking by turning off both valves but of course the rad will not get hot then!

Its often possible to remake the joint ( properly ) but that will depend on just how long itsd been leaking for and how much it has corroded.

In theory someone could retap the thread but few have the tap size required or would be prepared to do the work particularly when it might not be successful.

LSX is not always the best stuff to be used on a dirty thread. Gasket Goo as used on cars is often better as long as the joint is properly dried with heat.

Cowboys just put LSX on the outside of the joint, get paid and then dont answer their phones.

Thanks superdupergasman and agile, I've bought some LSX to get me through the next 2 weeks, then I'll have time to get the job done proper. time to learn how my central heating works!
