could somebody help me i want to try to impress someone and wondered if someone could describe how to test a domestic property at the mains board especialty the r1 n r2 test and then the sequence of tests after that no one will help

i want to try to impress someone

is this a joke, they seriously wont be impressed if you kill yourself!

nobody will help because its dangerous.

why do you want to know this? what are you planning to do?

testing a domestic property involves live testing which should only be done by qualified competent people! its not a DIY job.

you've got to have the skill and knowledge to avoid the dangers. besides which the results wont mean anything to you as you dont know what they mean.

no we have a board set out or cons unit with afew curcuits in them that we have 2 test or try to learn to test just wanted some help thats all ure a bit nasty rnt u

your post alarmed me thats all. but now uve explained i see what you mean.

is there anyone who you can learn off at work?

there are lots of tests to do, way too much to go into on here.

can recommend a few good books though, look at books by brian scaddan.

also the niceic do a good tesing book and also anthony hinsley (although im not keen on this one, gives you all the ways to test but non of the theory!)

No he is not nasty, he is trying to to keep you from injuring yourself.

Testing an installation is not simply a case of shoving a meter in the CU and pressing go.

It involves some complicated tests, some of which need to be performed on live circuits, some need to be carried out on dead circuits, some need circuits shorting out, some require testing with 250V, some with 500V and some with 1000V.

You will need to work in the CU which even when switched off will still have live parts inside.

Understanding the results is an important part of testing, and will tell you if you have done the test correctly, or if there is a problem that needs investigating.

there isnt a 'learn all about testing in under 3 minutes' course. there is a lot to know. you need to know how to safely carry out the tests, what your looking for and how to read the results. if you just go in and rip covers off BD and stick test leads on various parts without knowing what your doin, you and possibly the people your tryin to show off to will be dead. really want that to happen

I'm sorry, but "industryspark" was right.

You can't learn it from a few tips on a website.

Are you at a college, or in training? There are some good books, as "industryspark" said, and if you get stuck on one or two of the points, by all means come back for a bit of help. But no, sorry, you won't be able to learn it on here.

(edited: looks like several of us have the same opinion. Not all of us are horrible people - only me
