The best way to re-lay the stones I've taken out

The decorative stones in the channel in between the patio and the wall were looking a bit messy so I started removing them but what do I do now?! As you can see I've cleared half of the channel. I've got the decorative stones and sieved them from the soil. I just want to re-lay them.

The channel is about 6 inches wide.

No.
I've removed the stones from half of the channel so that's bare earth.
Plus its rained here (a lot)
