I haven't followed it, but I am guessing some sort of reparations for forcibly displacing the population.

The headline I read was that is was actually being paid over a hundred years at £100m per year. But that's all I really know.

I imagine there was very unequal bargaining power when the islands were originally "sold"

Anyway, the US leases the base from us. Surely we will get the money back from them each year.

What's the going rate for a military base these days. It's a long time since I've rented one.
