or as some people call it "The Notting Hill Carnival" is over for another year. Once again, mindless violence, drug dealing/taking, sexual assaults seems to be ever present. A shame, as it started out all those years ago as a happy event. I dare say local residents would not be too upset if it was banned, maybe it has run its course?

I think its days are numbered, mainly because it has entered the mainstream consciousness.

Things like this sometimes lose their appeal and dwindle, when they lose their cool and edginess. Perhaps this will go the same way.

It's one of the world's largest street festivals.
It's been going for nearly 60 years.
For the first 20 years the Carnival did not have permission, so the early years were marred by confrontation and riots.

Highest level of stabbings in 7 years

(In 2016 there were 15 reported stabbings)

275 arrests

Pics in the times of hoodies running riot with machetes

Violence at this event is imo predictable

Can you brandish a machete in any way other than a threatening one?

Dunno tbh

As this event seems to attract scum bags they should have highly trained snipers on roof tops any one with a machete / knife should be targeted

If taking them out would cause a risk to others ( innocent by standers) than they should be tracked and than taken out at the first oppurtunity

Sorted

Just an excuse for the blacks to go on the rampage, then call foul "racism" if its banned
Football violence is on the increase...

Just an excuse for thuggish (mainly) white people to 'go on the rampage'?

And then call 'foul' if football is banned?

And you do realise that there was a higher percentage of people arrested and more violence at Leeds/Reading festivals don't you?

Oh but that's right, they attract a mainly white clientele so it's ok not to comment on that!
