Had the local building control officer round today who advised that thermalites and concrete commons cannot be used together in the inner leaf because they have different thermal values .( I have approx 10 commons in a 3x4m extension) anyone heard of this ? Is there anyway to get round it without taking them out ? [/code]

Its bad practise but it happens has your BC just commented on them or asked for there removal ? If so does he want to see them removed ?

It is generally unacceptable to mix dense masonry with aerated (thermal) stuff. You can get lightweight coursing bricks for this purpose.

Ask him if he will accept a small thickness of insulation or a strip of DPC stuck to the face of the commons. This will only be acceptable if you are dot and dabbing.

Maybe if you told him you intend using foam adhesive where the plasterboard is in contact with the commons :?:
