Hi,

Quick question about fitting a thermostatic shower valve:

In my parents' house they have a shower that is currently fed by a mixer tap. This causes problems every time someone flushes the loo, turns on a tap elsewhere, etc.

They are considering fitting a thermostatic mixer tap, but I checked the pressures of the hot and cold flos and they are drastically different. Cold is fed by a pump from a borehole (in the country!) and the hot comes from storage tank in the loft, so the cold is much higher pressure than the hot. (You can stop the flow of hot with your thumb).

So my question is:

What are the options? Is is possible to get valves that operate OK with these kind of pressure differences, or will it be necessary to fit a PRV? If fitting a PRV, can this be fitted underneath the bath, just before the taps/valve?

Thanks!
Ben
