This may sound like a really stupid question, but please bear with me...

I've just taken delivery of a new range cooker. In the instruction manual it states that there will be a 13A plug connected to it, but there isn't - the (thick) cable's there, but it just ends without a plug.

I have attempted to wire it to several plugs, but the 3 individual cables (L,N,E) are so thick that I simply cannot get them to fit into any of them and still get the cover back on. I've tried and tried and it just won't go! Is there any sort of plug one can obtain that has a bit more space inside of it for this type of application? If not, any idea how I can make them fit?!

Many thanks from a newbie :D

When you say a range cooker, you mean it has about 3 ovens and 5 or 6 rings?

Is it all electric or is it partly gas?

Are You sure this is for a 13 amp plug? Thick cable how thick? 6mm2 or similar? I would get a electrician in if you are not sure. Do not make the came fit into to something it that is not designed for the cable.

Do you have a digital camera? If so could you take a photo of the cable in question for us to have a look at.

Is there a plate on the cooker with current and voltage ratings etc. written on it? If so what does it say?

on the range cooker either on a plate or in the instructions it should give a Kw rating this will help us

Thanks for the replies. I'm at work at present (on nights  ) so can't take any pictures or look at anything for now.

The instructions definitely state that the cable "comes supplied with a 13A plug" or words to that affect, but as I said before, it didn't. The cable is quite a bit thicker than the sort of cable you usually find on domestic appliances (and certainly thicker than the cable on our old cooker) - I would say about 8mm in diameter.

The cooker has two electric ovens and five gas hobs. I've got a plumber coming tomorrow to install the gas hose/fittings properly (was tempted to have a go myself but daren't).

When you get home, look up the users manual and see what the total electrical load can be at max (e.g. when all electric ovens are on). It might be more than a 13A plug can carry. On the other hand it might be OK but supplied with a 2.5mm flex cable, which is pretty big.

The hob/rings take a lot more power than ovens, but as you have several ovens you may need a dedicated Cooker circuit and hard-wired electrical outlet.

Have you spoken to the people you bought it from and said "hey - it hasn't been fitted with a plug as described, please resolve this"?
