Putting rigid insulation on inner skin of block wall. How to fit it when there's brick ties sticking out? Inner is thermalite.

Do I just push the boards so the ties poke through, or somehow fit them after?

As I said, undoubtedly a thicky question.

I thought the boards were sized to fit exactly at the intervals as the wall ties, and then you clip the little plastic disk on the tie to hold them in place?

Our builder just used the big ones and cut out holes and taped over. The smaller ones are more costly per m3, although very useful as loft insulation due to going through the hatch easily

There is I thing another difference in the boards

The "big" boards tend to have square edges.

Some of the "specialist" cavity "batts" have shaped edges, that if installed correctly tend to allow moisture to be trickled away from the inner leaf
