This Heatmap interface is crap, can we swap it out?

I am not an electrician, but as far as I am aware, they are interchangable. Be advised that some will allow you to base the temperature on the ambient temperature in the room. In the past I have had to fit those when the floor probe became faulty.
My experience is limited but the WarmUp ones seem to be pretty good. They do various ones, some with timers, some with a simple dial.
