I've just had a quote for a replacement boiler and additional rads within a new extension. Any thoughts on the quote as I haven't a clue?

Worcester Bosch 30CDI = £1100.00
Installation cost for boiler in the roof space = £650.00
Gas Run on the outside wall = £150.00
Radiator 1 600 x 1400 p+ (extension) = £150.00
Radiator 2 600 x 1000 k2 (kitchen) = £140.00
Radiator 3 & 4 600 x 800 k1 (bedroom) = £190.00
Towel rail (bathroom) 500 x 1000 = £150.00
Radio frequency programmable clock/stat = £120.00

Optional extras:
Powerflush central heating system = £250.00
Magnetic filter to help protect your new boiler = £120.00
New thermostatic radiator valves for existing radiators = £30 per Radiator

Don't put it in the loft
Get a 600 x 1800 towel rail for the bathroom with trv fitted.
Yes to a power flush, filter and trv's to all other rads except where room stat is.

Is that because it gets too cold in the loft?
The towel rail is for an ensuite @ 2.5 x 1.7

What about the prices of things in the quote ?

Only fit a boiler in the loft when the loft floor is boarded with a handrail around the loft hatch and a fixed light. It will cost you more to fix when in the loft rather than a cupboard in the kitchen.

If you fit a tall towel rad in the bathroom, you can dry two bath towels, with a trv fitted it can be controlled not to be too hot.

Can't help with the prices, wait for the gas boys

Why not? Nothing rude just stating a fact. You've posted, on a DIY advice site, with nothing but a question about money.

The quote is not unreasonable in terms of the costs quoted.

BUT I am not happy with those who price a power flush as an "optional" extra!

I know why they do it. Its to combat the cowboys who dont do it at all.

The reality is that a new boiler has to be fitted to a clean system, How its cleaned depends on how dirty it is.

Usually proper chemical cleaning with good quality chemicals is adequate. If very dirty then power flushng is needed.

flushing isn't an optional extra it is a requirement, as is fitting trv's, I would dream of fitting any boiler in the loft & especially not a WB, in the cold weather the frost stat will mean it's running even when the heating is off

Personally I love seeing a boiler in a lit, boarded and laddered loft.

Agree though that asking for pricing advice is pointless to the degree of almost being annoying.

Too many variables that we can't see and consider.

would rather service a boiler in a lit ,boarded loft every time than one wedged into a kitchen unit or cupboard downstairs.

Hello BobR1, All sounds pretty reasonable to me as long as its all done.
By the way do you have an R1 :D I have the 5pw and love it :D
