Tie rods

I need to fit one. I've done a few but they've all been in two parts with turnbuckles connecting them. Apart from transporting a seven metre rod is there any reason it can't just be in one piece? I'm sure I can get as much torque on the nuts as with the turnbuckle.

If its in one peice I can fit it much more discretely.
