First post on here so please be gentle.......

What is the general UK thoughts on use of Tigerloop deaeration devices mounted inside the building? Manufactureres web sites shows these mounted near to the boiler but some UK adverts state 'external use only'. Is the plastic the issue, or the vented fumes or both, or are they OK for use here?

Thanks

It's primarily the fumes. In general I would not put a reservoir of oil, however small, inside a building.

If you read all the text books they tend to infer that a Tiger Loop is rarely neccessary. In the real world we know different. I'm not oil qualified, but i'm sure one of my colleagues who is told me they must be mounted externally. I think its a fire thing.

Its worth investigating why you are getting air in the oil line in the first place. We inherited a load of installations with HRM Wallstars that would not run right without a Tiger Loop. In the end we found the REAL fault was in the oil tank pickup arrangement and the HRM boilers were not at fault at all. It was cheaper and far less disruptive to install Tiger Loops and deal with the symptoms than drain and replace the oil pickup systems in all the oil tanks. They are all still fine two years on.

There is a de-aerator model GS200 which does not vent to atmosphere so it's suitable for internal use, however I agree with Oilman - pointless indoors.

It is not a fire thing.

Deaerators are useful to reduce the problems of bleeding the line when the owner has run out of oil, and where the older pumps (and current Riello ones) are not designed to lift oil. Current Danfoss pumps can lift 2.5m.
