Hi,

I have a Renault Master van 2013 registration (UK). The MOT failed stating "Macpherson strut pin or bush excessively worn Offside Front (Top strut mount)"

I purchased a new top strut mount and also the drop link and swapped them out. All seems to have went okay, however, the reinforced rubber washer that bolts on to top inside engine bay does not sit down on the chassis mount. See images - the image that shows my finger in gap is the offside and other image is the nearside and it is sitting on chassis mount

What have I done wrong here? Is this a concern and how do I fix please?

Thanks in advance

Yes, I tightened everything up while it was on an axle stand. I think it was when I put van on its wheel again the gap appeared. Everything is seated correctly I think, there is a nut below that which bolts the strut mount to top of strut and it is tight and the strut is as far up into chassis mount as it will go. The nut in picture is also on as tight as it will go

It May just be the design of the mount you are using. I wouldn’t worry about it. Some of them float all over the place when hanging. As long as it all tightens up when the car is on the ground it will be fine. It’s obvious you have a new bush so if the tester gets funny when you go back, remind him of this from the manual:

Yes, thanks for this. I checked it was as tight as it would go when back on its wheel. I took it a road test and then checked everything again and there doesn't seem to be any play

I would be inclined to slacken all the bolts a little then retighten whilst tge weight is on the suspension rather than it be hanging in the air.

Other than that I have nothing to suggest and if it is running/steering/cornering okay then it should reasonably be presumed to be okay.

Hi, I actually removed everything again and ensure everything was in place as it should be and then put bolts\nuts in and finished tightening when wheel was on ground. However still the same. I have no time to do anything else - MOT re0test is tomorrow and if it fails then back to drawing board. Thanks for help

Hi, van passed MOT. Thanks for all assistance. Learned a lot
