I'm thinking I should tile behind the cooker hood to give it a better finish, what do you reckon? Or is it not worth the effort of disconnecting the cooker hood?

Depends whether you can be ar$ed or not. Might be useful in future if you have to change the hood. It would bring the hood out further - I trust this wouldn't be a problem?
