tile wieght

Hi i'm having a single storey extension 8.5 metres wide by 4.5 m with a 15 degree pitch sloping back towards the house. is tile weight important i,ve been recommended melbourne interlocking slate tiles are these any good? rather than use concrete interlocking ones the melbourne are much lighter apparently but more expensive. does this sound right.

It's not the weight you've got to be aware of there as much as the pitch of the roof, at 15 degrees your choice is much reduced, the Melborne & Redland Cambrians will go to that pitch but with concrete tiles you are restricted to Marley Wessex tiles or Redland Regents really
 
You don't need to go for a lighter tile because the roofer says so. The roof would presumably have been designed to take a certain tile, and if that was concrete then you can use concrete

And you need to conform to any planning permission in terms of materials, or if under PD, the tiles need to match the existing
