Hi,

I'm about to tile my kitchen wall with herringbone mosaic tiles and i need some advice.

we have chosen a mirrored splashback and will tile either side of the splash back.

My plan is to find the centre of the wall where the splash back will go and then from here find the centre of the walls either side by measuring from the centre of the splash back to the wall on each side and marking the centre.

I will use these centres to centre my mosaic tiles to so that when your looking at the wall it is symmetrical.

Is this the correct way to start?

Yip, on the Kitchen Hob wall always measure out from the centre. In your case fit the Splashback first, then normally tile left and right off it, so that it’s full tiles against the Splashback edge. I’m the case of Herrringbone, I’d still be inclined to go left and right, but you’ll have to measure it out first to avoid silly looking small triangles being fitted to the outside ends. ( depending if there’s a ‘return’ corner at either end). For a professional looking job, don’t forget the tile trim between Spashback and the tiles

By herrigbone I'm going to assume that you mean diagonal. Trying to get those diagonal cuts looking good next to the mirrored piece is going to be extremely tricky.

My main concern would be to have those diagonals as substantial as possible (i.e TILE centre) to avoid the fiddly, scrappy corners that might result from your centering (centring?, centreing?) plan

Suggestion #1: Have you condidered mounting your mirrored piece ON TOP of your tiles. This would remove the need for any cuts at all.

Left field suggestion #2: Have you considered patterned glass instead of tiles? Massively easier to fit and get the edges perfect. No need for any trim either as you can just silicone the gap

As above, it sounds like a mare to do. Do you have a picture/link?
