Hi,

New here so please be kind!! :-)

Pulled all the tiles from existing shower cubicle. Old 1/2" plywood backing on stud wall is 'o.k.' but not suitable to re-tile onto, and can't easily be removed. Can I just re-cover with 6mm tile backing board and then re-tile on top. Do not want to use anything thicker as I will run out of shower tray!!

What can I attach the new board with if this is acceptable?

Cheers

If the ply structure is solidly fixed and secure, I would say though 6mm is not ideall, the 1/2" ply will give plenty of rigidity for securing boards.
I would locate the studs and fix using the hardiebacker wood frame screws.

the simple answer is yes, as long as your ply is fixed solidly there is no reason why you cannot fix hardiebacker board to it then tile
