i doubt you will get anyone recommending you to do it, buts if your heart is set on it then you will just have to take your chances and go with it. Stiffen the door as best as possible and good luck. Hope it works out for you.

ok am almost ready to go.
I got a heavy duty firedoor with ply and some big ass hinges mounted on my 4x2 studwall.

What is a good product to seal the ply with?

I'm going to hot glue and silicone the tiles on.

Went with flexi grout in the end and all looks great lets see in 6 months!

Had it fit a door restictor to stop tiles touching and possibly pushing each other off.

quick update,

All still on no problems, still tring to find some trim though.

is it slate tiles you have fixed?...if so trim would just spoil... take the look from them imo...

The tiles stick out over the door in order to match the ones on the wall. The 'edge' is a little sharp so need to trim that. some sort of 'wrap-around tape' would be ideal .
