Hello,

Redoing a bathroom at the mo, will be mostly fully tiled with large heavy porcelain tiles.

It has 3 stud walls and a dot and dab plasterboard on lightweight block on the 4th. We have removed all the plasterboard on the studs.

Will be using aqua boards or similar around shower and was thinking of using external ply on the rest of the walls to tile on.

Is this ok? If so what thickness ? 18, 22?

What about the dot and dab, which we haven't removed yet.

Any help please.

Thanks

not really, your best either using aqua board or if its not in a wet area like the shower just m/r plasterboard.

as the for dot/dab, just mechanical fix through it.

if they are really heavy porcelain then you might blow the weight limit for plasterboard (32kg/m2)

Ok cool, thanks for that.

They will be very heavy, would ply be ok?

Ply is far more expensive and less good, so as tpt said - no. Aqua panel or hardibacker is about the only thing that will be suitable for tile that heavy.
