Tiling onto tiles with plywood/hardboard in between

hi,

I have tiles that are already up and am tiling onto them, however the mosaic tiles are slightly thinner than the main wall tiles. Therefore I have attempted to lay the adhesive on thick but this is causing a problem as it is mesh behind the mosaic.

Will it work by putting plywood/hardboard on first maybe coating with PVC and then sticking that to the area where mosiac tiles are going onto and then putting the adhesive on top of that. I cant think of any better way.

Any help would be much appreciated as I so just want this room finished off asap. Thanks.
