Timber cladding on a timber framed extension

Hi guys after a bit of advice, I am in the planning stages of building a rear extension 5 x 4 meters, im taking advantage of the lapse in the planning permission by going out 4m. The building will be trench filled foundations with oversite and concrete floor, then timber framed with felt roof.
My question is I want to clad the timber frame is vertical timber but from what I have read you have to keep the building the same as the original.
Has anyone had any dealings with this??

To be permitted development, the materials of construction should be similar to the materials of the existing house (except for conservatories).
